- Sustainable and circular material: aluminium is a virtuous material that can be recycled endlessly without ever losing its properties. Its circularity guarantees a low carbon footprint along the entire production chain: in fact, it avoids the exploitation of raw material from upstream extraction, recovering and enhancing downstream materials that would otherwise be landfilled.
- Lower energy and water consumption: the aluminium recycling process requires only 5% of energy compared to the production of the primary metal, as well as considerable water savings.
- Low carbon footprint: the carbon footprint of aluminium from recycling is 0.5 kg CO₂eq/kg of aluminium produced, much lower than that of primary aluminium from extraction, equal to 6.7 kg CO₂eq/kg of aluminium produced in Europe, or even the world average, equivalent to 17 kg CO₂eq/kg of aluminium produced.
According to European Aluminium, the demand for aluminium is expected to increase by 40% by 2050, of which 50% could be met through recycling. This would reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 39 million tonnes per year, a 46% reduction in 2050.
- Thermal efficiency: recycled aluminium alloy EN AB-46100 is used today in the heating sector thanks to its excellent metallurgical, mechanical, conduction and thermal inertia properties and corrosion resistance.
